Cumin

Properties:

Cumin is the seed of the Cuminum cyminum plant and is one of the most popular spices used in kitchens around the world, especially in Arab and Indian cuisine. It is characterized by a warm aroma and a strong, slightly bitter flavor. Cumin contains active compounds such as cuminaldehyde, as well as antioxidants and volatile oils. It also contains important elements such as iron, magnesium, and calcium, making it beneficial for supporting overall health.

Cosmetic Benefits:

Cumin contributes to improving skin health thanks to its antioxidants, which help reduce signs of aging. It helps purify the skin and reduce impurities, and also contributes to soothing mild skin inflammations. It gives the skin a more radiant appearance. For hair, it helps strengthen hair follicles, improve scalp health, and reduce dandruff.

Culinary Use:

Cumin can be used as a warm drink by adding half a teaspoon to a cup of boiling water and letting it steep for 5 to 10 minutes. It is also used as a spice in cooking and added to rice, legumes, meats, vegetables, and soups. It can be added to yogurt or salads. It helps improve digestion and reduce bloating and gas.

Cosmetic Use:

For skin: Cumin powder can be mixed with honey or yogurt and used as a natural mask. Cumin water can also be used as a facial wash.
For hair: Cumin can be mixed with natural oils such as olive oil or coconut oil and massaged into the scalp, or an infusion of cumin can be used as a hair rinse.

Shelf Life:

Whole cumin: 12 to 24 months when stored in a cool, dry place.
Ground cumin: 6 to 12 months, and preferably used within a shorter period.

Contraindications:

It is preferable not to overuse cumin, especially for those with sensitive stomach issues. Pregnant women are advised to use it only in moderate amounts. Caution should be exercised by diabetics as it may affect blood sugar levels. Caution is also advised for those with liver problems or who are taking certain medications.

Allergy Test:

Apply a small amount of the diluted product to a small patch of skin and leave it for 24 hours. If no irritation occurs, it can be used safely.
